The short answer
Choose for the devices, locations and features you need. Compare the full subscription cost and renewal terms. The providers below are listed alphabetically, not ranked: we have not published comparable firsthand tests.
Provider guides · Alphabetical order, not a ranking

NordVPN

Proton VPN

Surfshark

Start with one job
Write down the reason you are considering a VPN. A work connection, a particular server location and an app for a television each create a different shortlist. If a provider cannot support your essential device or location, a discount will not solve that problem.
Compare the features that matter
Use the source links below to check what each provider currently documents. Features can differ by operating system and plan. Treat a general feature list as a starting point, then open the setup instructions for your exact device.
Read the whole price
Check the total initial charge, the number of months it covers, the renewal charge and the renewal date. Note taxes and optional extras separately. Save the checkout terms so you can compare the agreement with what you expected to buy.
Match evidence to your situation
A useful performance test names the starting connection, VPN server location, device, app version, protocol and test date. A nearby-server result does not answer how a long-distance connection will perform.
Our current coverage
These guides cover four services whose official documentation we checked. This is an editorial selection for comparison, not a complete market survey or a tested ranking. We will publish scores only after there is evidence readers can inspect.
