VPN Brief

Choosing a VPN with US servers

Choose the US connection you need, then check the city, the app and the subscription.

Source-based guide. We have not published firsthand tests or assigned scores. Current provider links do not earn commission. How links work.

The short answer

Start with the US server directory, not a global server count. NordVPN and Surfshark publish US location pages. Check the city you need and confirm whether it is a physical or virtual location. We have not measured local server performance.

A US address is not a city choice

A provider advertising US servers does not establish that every US city is available. Start with the provider’s current location directory. If you need a particular city, confirm that location inside the app and read any virtual-location notes before paying.

Connecting within the US or from abroad

Write down where you will start and which US location you need to reach. Those are different requirements from simply having a US subscription. If latency matters, test the destination you need during your normal working or viewing hours.

Television and router setups

Check the installation guide for your television, streaming device or router model. Confirm whether it has a native app or requires a different configuration. Do this before buying a long subscription for a living-room device.

Streaming and account access

A US IP address does not guarantee access to a particular service or title. Check that service’s current subscription and location rules. We have not published US playback tests or a service-by-service success table.

What this page covers

This is a directory-based planning guide. It does not give a legal assessment, a local speed ranking or a promise that a bank or streaming service will accept a VPN connection.
