VPN Brief

Choosing a VPN for streaming

Start with the service and device you actually watch, then check the plan.

Source-based guide. We have not published firsthand tests or assigned scores. Current provider links do not earn commission. How links work.

The short answer

Check the app for your streaming device and the service rules for your account. A provider saying it supports streaming is not a dated playback test. We have not published service-by-service streaming results.

Start with the screen you use

List your television, streaming stick, game console or mobile device. Open the VPN setup instructions for that exact platform. A phone app does not establish that your television has an equivalent app or the same settings.

Check plan eligibility

Read the current plan table before subscribing. Features and available server locations may differ between free and paid tiers. Check the selected plan rather than relying on a general statement that a provider supports streaming.

A useful test starts playback

Connecting to a VPN server and opening a service’s home page is not enough to establish that a title plays. A useful result records the title, region, device, date and number of attempts. We have not published that evidence for these providers.

Read both sets of terms

Review the streaming service’s location rules and the VPN’s cancellation and refund conditions. Neither a VPN subscription nor a previous playback result guarantees continued access to a catalog.
